This BCP has really helped me reach learners who usually fall through the cracks. With the BCP, they finally understand concepts like colour, shape size, numbers, and even letter sounds. It makes mathematics and other learning areas so much easier, especially for intervention learners.

The BCF team came in to help, not to criticise, and that made such a difference. Their demonstrations, energy, and guidance helped me grow. I’m looking forward to learning even more next year.

My children enjoy the lessons so much—they are excited about the shapes, colours, and the activities. They talk more, describe objects better, and their vocabulary has grown. The fun, practical approach makes learning interesting, and I can see that they really understand now.

Description

The BC-ME Focus Schools Project is designed to deliver targeted interventions in a cluster of schools identified as having significant educational challenges, particularly among learners who have not responded to existing support programmes.

This collaborative initiative seeks to pinpoint key areas that can drive positive change in educational practice across the Metro.

The BC-ME Focus Schools Project has several key goals:

  • To equip targeted schools with effective strategies for identifying, intervening with, and tracking the progress of the most needy learners
  • To collaborate with Metro East in creating a scalable model that can be applied to additional needy school clusters within the Metro region.
  • To supplement and enhance the current support systems within schools, particularly for learners facing significant barriers to learning.
  • To increase the effectiveness of state-employed itinerant Learning Support Teachers by enabling them to better support key educators in implementing the Basic Concepts Programme.

Evaluation

The evaluation of the BC-ME project will involve comprehensive data collection and assessment at both baseline and end-point stages to measure learner progress and teacher development.

Assessment tools will address key academic areas like reading, writing, and mathematics, while qualitative measures will capture student engagement and program impact.

The evaluation will also focus on essential learner characteristics such as self-regulation, problem-solving, and empathy. Mentoring visits will support teacher growth and serve as opportunities for data collection, complemented by an online observation schedule to systematically track progress.
